Should’ve seen it coming!, booked a table, no confirmation so had to phone. Got there and only one other occupied table – worrying for 7:30 on a Friday I thought.

Waiter brought out the wine, didnt open it or pour (grr)
My first choice of main (mussels) although on menu “has been lying for a while so chef wouldnt recommend it” eek!

So we went for Chicken Liver pate to share as a starter
Mixed Tempura and Haddock and Prawn Rissotto for mains

Well….. Chicken liver pate was so strong Im sure you could bait bears with it! I think they mixed in some sort of smelly cheese to make it go further. I like my cheeses – the smellier the better, but in chicken liver pate hmm. It was what I imagine licking the inside of someones toes after they have been wearing trainers all day on a hot day – not pleasant.

Mixed tempura – appeared nice although i did notice the prawns looked suspiciously like bought in ones and wrapped in filo pastry!

Haddock and Prawn Rissotto – a large portion and very creamy, quite nice but very rich and not much haddock and prawn

We finished with cheesecake – which disappointed the Cheesecake Monster who is a bit of a cheesecake expert. Very watery, not very pleasant.

For a “Country Club” i expected more, it did appear to be general “bar meal” territory and even that is generous.

Bar doors were open so you got the bar noise which didnt help the ambience of the restaurant.

Suffice it to say, we wont be back!

Update:-Had meant to update this from November 2009.   We succumbed to at least the bar are due to visiting nearby.  Good range of ales and spirits however tv blasting away meant that we didn’t want to linger over a drink.  Seems  a bit confused as to what they want to offer – bar meals or a hotel/country club ambience.    Will try and pop by again to see if anything has improvedwith the new owners but the intial impression was one that I wouldn’t waste my money going back.

Go back. It’s really changed now. They do some good deals, like a buy one get one free, and if it’s nice homecooked pub grub you can’t really go wrong. Honestly, try it.

Oh I dunno, it really put me off. They made a mess of nearly every piece of food they touched on the menu.

Had a meal for 14 in january this year for my sons 21st birthday. If you want 5 star go to a 5 star redtaurant. If you want good food at a good price, this is the place for you. A young chef learning her trade and doing a very good job of it. Enjoy while you can as I am sure the chef will be moving up in the catering world very soon.

ps have now made this my local for local eating out
