Skriti Kot, Ajdovscina 4, Ljublijana – April 2012

Located underneath the main precinct, this place is hard to find (Skriti Kot means hidden corner) but worth it to sit with the students and workers of Ljublijana out for a cheap filling lunch.

There are many different options available depending on the day of the week you visit and whether you want their normal menu or the cheap menu.  We went for two different set menus, both two courses.  These were €4.60 and €5.60 for each of us.  €2.50 each for 0.5l beer and we were happily fed and watered.

a ham stew with barley was like a huge, thicker version of scotch broth.   Completely filling, flavoursome and with delicious bread too.  I went for Cheese rolls with mushroom sauce.  Creamy sauce with strong mushrooms gave some oomph to the cheese roll.  The roll itself was filled with a cottage cheese like substance, but not as horrible as cottage cheese can be.  A doughy almost, strudel like exterior.

A webpage can be found HERE.  Most recommended to see real Slovene food, and cheaply.
