Laurie’s, 127 Hope Street, Glasgow – Apr 2011

Passed by here as it was being kitted out and thought it looked promising,  thankfully was tweeted a recommendation so another reason to go.

We both went for the lunch deal of Pannini, any drink and crisps for £5.50.  Ham and Cheese pannini was average, I’ve had better – could have been served with a side salad, maybe some nice onion chutney or something, needed some zing.  Earl grey tea came in the lovely little suki tea pots and looked delightful and tasted delicious too.

After drooling at the cakes in the window earlier we went for a mango meringue and a slice of carrot cake.  The meringue was sublime, lightly flavoured, again delicious but maybe a little bit of fresh cream on the side?  Very large meringue 🙂 The carrot cake went down well, only gripe was that it was very very sweet.

Would definately go back, the cakes are marvellous and the tea full of flavour.

Went in on Wed 31 August 2011 with my daughter. She ordered a sausage pannini, with tea, at 10.30am they had no sausage she then ordered the bacon one. When it came it had 2 tiny pieces of bacon in a baguette roll. Very poor showing. I ordered a latte and when I saw the size of the coffee cups actually felt like walking out. The small size at £1.90 is kids tea set size and the large is only slightly bigger. The overall place is nice and the homemade cakes do look amazing, but if you are going to scrimp on giving people a decent size coffee then I for one wont be back. Check out Esquires, and see their size of coffee’s!

Hmm, the cakes are fine, but last time i went, despite sourcing coffee from artisan roast (BEST coffee in glasgow!!) they burnt the coffee, rendering it bitter. I went a second time and it was still too hot, and again tasted so foul i had to throw most of it away.

The soups i’ve had have been ok, but nothing to write home about.

This is a craking little place and been in many times and going again today. I read the previous notes and gripes and of the opinion some people just like a good moan. go into to princes square and you will easily double your money.
