Bo’Vine 385 Byres Road, Glasgow, G12 8AU – Nov 2010

A cheeky little deal not publicised on their window -£14.50 per person for 2 courses on our Market Menu, or £17.95 for 3 courses.  Why not publicise this and get some bums on seats?

Starters were Warm potato and goats cheese terrine with roasted beetroot (V) – Warm potato and goats cheese terrine with roasted beetroot. This was rather nice, with a nice mix of potato and cheese that melted and
blended quite well.

Quothquan pheasant breast, bacon with truffle dressed leaves good amount of pheasant, some leaves, the bacon was a little salty, overall very nice.

We both had the same main of Char grilled rib-eye steak, triple cooked chips with fiery peppercorn sauce.  Fiery? Hardly.  Chips looked triple cooked. Crispy outside and fluffy inside but a little too brown for my liking.  I had my steak rare, the other diner medium to well done..  Mine was OK, a bit too much battling to get rubbery chunks of fat off – not the melt in the mouth fat I’ve had with rib before 😦   The other dinner mentioned that the steak was a massive disappointment, one part of it was quite nice, the other part was a huge mess of meat and connective tissue, enough
to put this diner off returning.

Dark chocolate terrine, pistachio oil with honey – very moussey and cashews around the terrine – strange looking pistachios?!

Vanilla pod creme brulee with orange scented biscuits – bit stingy with the depth of brulee, biscuits were nice but not very orange scented.

Accompanied with a bottle of Rioja  (The Rioja was nice but not £25 nice) and a baby bottle of water the bill came to £62.50.

Friendly waitress and pleasant decor.  However it still reeks of hotel restaurant and the food was disappointing considering the end of the price spectrum the whole places pushes too.  Certainly won’t be back to splash out on the a la carte menu.

Good space between tables to move about, brightly lit but not too bright.  Toilets at the rear of the restaurant beside the breakfast area of the hotel.
